I've heard that Zappa Plays Zappa is pretty intense, so I say this with a big grain of salt, but isn't it a bad sign when a package tour hires what's essentially a cover band as their main opener? I mean, is the state of progressive music so bad that Mike Portnoy can't find a band he likes to open for Dream Theater that is playing music of a more recent vintage than the early 1990s?
That might be a little harsh. I suspect the real reason Portnoy tapped the Zappa crew is that he knows there's a good crossover between fans of the two groups and he's looking to give people more reasons to come to the show. Good strategy for the tough economic times and all that, but I hope he's not relying on two relative unknowns from Sweden to expand peoples' horizons.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!
No! Zappa Plays Zappa is a lot more than a simple cover band! I've seen them a bunch. Dweezil has everything down cold and he usually has amazing special guests from the original band like Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio, Napolean Murphy Brock and Ray White.
I'm going to go to as many of these as I can!
This is amazing news!
